Celebrating Diwali
Diwali, Festival of Lights, is one of the largest celebrations for many people around the globe. Amidst the vast number of festivals and regional celebrations in India, Diwali is a festival that is celebrated with joyous spirit in fall each year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. The five-day Festival of Lights is celebrated by Jains, Hindus, and Sikhs for different reasons, although the main theme which runs throughout is the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
